Scunthorpe opticians heads to the beach
Here at Scunthorpe Specsavers we turned our store into a beach to raise money for a staff member taking part in an Ethiopian charity run.
Ann Cockburn, our contact lens manager on High Street, will be completing the 10k challenge in November for Vision Aid Overseas. The store put on an exotic beach themed event Saturday (5th August) and raised nearly £300 to help Ann get to her £2,600 target, with staff also dressing up in colourful clothing, along with a cake sale and games for customers.
Ann, 49, also wants to raise awareness among the Scunthorpe public about Vision Aid Overseas and the work the charity does overseas in developing countries.
Bring the beach to us
‘I really wanted to raise money for such a well-deserved charity that helps under privileged people to see,’ says Ann.
Scunthorpe store manager Angela Dawson says: ‘We couldn’t get to the seaside ourselves, so we decided to bring the beach to us. Ann has been training really hard for the past six months and the store wants to help her as much as we can.’
