Dementia Friends lend a hand
Specsavers in Whiteley is giving a big hand to customers living with dementia by training up to become Dementia Friends.
Following on from this month’s Dementia Awareness Week (15-21 May), 10 members of the team have now completed a Dementia Friend course organised by the Alzheimer’s Society. The initiative involves staff watching a series of scenario-based videos to gain a better understanding of dementia and its effect on people.
Those completing the course include optometrist Tom Joyce, optical apprentice Shannon Collyer and optical assistant Amber Giles. They have now been issued with badges to help customers identify them as a Dementia Friend in store.
Carey Cloke, store director at Specsavers Whiteley, said: ‘We’re proud supporters of Dementia Friends at the store. The training has been incredibly useful and is helping us to provide the best possible care to customers with the condition.’
