With the launch of Dementia Awareness Week, the team at Specsavers in Wandsworth are going above and beyond to ensure customers with the condition are receiving the very best care at the store.

Very good hands

These customers include local resident Myra, who is living with dementia and is a regular visitor to the business located in the Southside shopping centre.

Myra is in very good hands at the store, as the team have been undertaking training to qualify them as Dementia Friends.

The initiative, set up by the Alzheimer’s Society, involves a series of video and practical exercises to give people a greater understanding of what it is like to live with dementia.

A total of 16 members of staff at Wandsworth have completed the course, and have now been issued with badges to help customers identify them as a Dementia Friend.

Peter McCrory, store director at Specsavers Wandsworth, says: ‘Myra is part of our Specsavers family here in Wandsworth and we do our upmost to give her the highest level of care when she comes to the store.

‘We pride ourselves on providing excellent service to all of our customers, so Dementia Friends is a cause we fully support.’
