Torquay runners raise funds for Rowcroft Hospice
Colleague Shaun Crome, Cassie Pickering and Simon Simmonds hit the road at this year’s Torbay Half Marathon in aid of Rowcroft Hospice.
The team of runners from Specsavers Torquay not only achieved personal bests but also added substantial funds to the running fundraising total, now at £1,369.
Torquay store director, Simon Simmonds said: ‘Shaun and Cassie did a fantastic job at the Torbay Half Marathon, achieving personal bests of two hours seven minutes and two hours eleven minutes respectively.
‘It takes real training, courage and determination to partake in a half marathon and I couldn’t be prouder or more thankful for their efforts.'
Fundraising for Joy
The team at Torquay Specsavers and the surrounding area have kept Joy Filon’s memory alive since she sadly passed away from cancer in 2015. Last year the store raised thousands for Cancer Research.
Simon Simmonds added: ‘Sadly we lost our close friend and colleague, Joy Filon to cancer. The team at Rowcroft Hospice were just incredible towards the end of Joy’s life. It was clear we should spend our time this year supporting them and helping raise essential funds.’
Throughout the year staff at Torquay Specsavers have carried out a number of events from open water swimming to raffles and musical events in store.
