A brand-new Specsavers has officially opened its doors in Sainsbury’s on Bitterscote Drive, Tamworth.
Wealth of experience
Run as a joint-venture partnership, the store is headed up by optical director, Ravinder Bahia and retail director, Lisa Large. It’s a homecoming for both as when they first joined Specsavers 12 years ago, this was where the store was located before moving to The Ankerside Centre in 2009. The addition of the new store will provide more flexibility for local people who will be able to choose between a town centre location or the Sainsbury’s site.
Bringing a total of 40 years’ optical experience, Ravinder and Lisa are overseeing a team of seven who will offer the very best optical and audiology service. Five have joined from the town centre store, with two new positions created.
The store benefits from the latest in optical equipment which includes an Optical Coherence Technology (OCT) machine, usually found in hospital eye departments, which produces a structural scan of the eye. A sound-proofed audiology room is also available for hearing appointments, carried out by audiologist Jamie El Bast.
‘Lots of hard work went into getting the store ready, and it’s fantastic to now be welcoming customers through the doors,’ saidRavinder. ‘It’s also exciting to be back to where we started with Specsavers and we’ve brought our first employee with us too; Stephanie Easthope joined as an optical assistant in 2008. She is now a qualified dispensing optician and our new store manager.’
Focused on customer care
To ensure the safety of staff and customers, there are restrictions on the number of people allowed in store at any one time, strict social distancing rules and, where possible, card instead of cash payments.
‘We have three testing rooms as well as a pre-test area and more than 1,000 different frame styles on display,’ continued Ravinder. ‘We understand how important the customer experience in store is and both Lisa and I know that our team will help deliver this. Our aim is to provide the very best optical and audiology care to the local community in an accessible location.’
The store is open Monday to Thursday, 8am – 7pm, Friday and Saturday, 8am – 6pm and Sunday 9.30am – 4pm. Audiology appointments are available four days a week.
