This week (24 -30 March) marks Love Your Lenses Week which is being supported by Specsavers stores across the nation.
Contact lenses are worn safely and loved by millions of people. However, research conducted by the General Optical Council shows that not all contact lens wearers know how to look after their lenses properly.*
If you’ve not seen your optician in a while, why not book in an aftercare appointment at your local store.
At these appointments, your optician will check that your contact lenses fit correctly and will talk to you about the best ways to care for your lenses to make sure your eyes stay healthy. If you love your eyes, you should love your lenses.
Ensuring that your contact lenses are kept clean and stored correctly is important, but there are other steps that should be taken, such as making sure you always wash and dry your hands thoroughly before touching your contact lenses.
The General Optical Council has produced the Rule of T.H.U.M.B. to promote effective hand-washing.
Rule of T.H.U.M.B
Thumbs - don’t forget them!
Happy Birthday – sing it twice while you wash your hands
Under the nails – need a good scrub
Massage soap into palms, backs of hands, fingers and thumbs
Both hands dry? Now you can touch your eye
