As part of Road Safety Week in November, Specsavers Stroud teamed up with Cotswold BMW Motor Group to help highlight the importance of making sure your eyes are fit to drive.

On Saturday 25 November, Specsavers on King Street checked the eyesight of 220 shoppers using a BMW i8 and i3, which were situated outside the store. Customers and passers-by were invited to come down and see if they could read a number plate from 20m to check whether they might benefit from a full eye examination.

Promoting importance of eye health

Riz Choonara, store director, said: ‘This is the second time we’ve run this event and we were delighted with the response from the public. Of the 220 people we tested, 50 struggled to read the number plate, so we encouraged them to book a sight test at the store to get their vision checked properly.

‘We feel very strongly about making sure people are aware that if they’re driving, they should be making sure they can see properly.

'While there isn’t currently a legal requirement for the majority of drivers to have regular sight checks, the number plate test is something everyone has to do when they first take their test. We thought this was a good way to remind people about the importance of looking after their eyes.’
