Meet the optometrist - Nicola
Nicola has worked with Specsavers for more than 19 years. Her journey began in the Aberdeen store as a summer worker on the reception desk whilst studying Optometry at University.
Her career continued as she went on to do her pre-registration year within the Aberdeen store where she worked until the Stonehaven store opened up in the area. Nicola then stepped into the new challenge of directorship for the store.
In her spare time, you can find Nicola either surfing or on a paddle boarding, which are both something she has a keen interest in and has been a member of the Banff Surf School for more than 10 years. She also enjoys designing jewellery, growing her own vegetables and pilates.
Her favourite glasses are larger round-eye plastic style frames.
Importance of eye tests
On eye tests, Nicola said: ‘An eye test takes around 30 minutes to complete and consists of checking a person’s vision and their overall eye health. This is to ensure than there are no risks to their ocular and general health as well as checking to see if they need glasses or contact lenses to aid their vision.
‘Eye tests are painless and there are no wrong answers within the test itself. Regular eye tests are extremely important as they prevent serious eye and general health problems, as well as ensuring that customers can see to their maximum potential.’
Within the store there also two Independent Prescribing Optometrists which means customers can save a trip to their doctors if they have a minor eye condition.
