St Helens supports fundraising for children's charity
The St Helens Specsavers team is supporting Chris Lea in his fundraising mission for Children with Cancer UK, which includes the impressive challenge of running the London marathon in 2018.
Always in pursuit of worthwhile causes to champion, the team donated a £99 pair of glasses and a free eye test as a raffle prize to support Chris’s fundraising initiative. The generous prize was given away at a charity fundraising event hosted by Chris.
The 26.2 mile mission
Chris aims to raise £2,000 for the charity and is training hard to ensure he completes his goal of running the 26.2 mile-long marathon in April next year.
Children with Cancer UK funds life-saving research into the causes, prevention and treatment of childhood cancer and work to protect young lives through an essential welfare programme.
Tom Lowry, director of the Specsavers St Helens store, said: ‘Chris is incredibly inspiring and the team are pleased to be able to support his fundraising efforts. We congratulate Chris on his fundraising efforts so far and wish him all the best with his training ahead of next year. We know with his determination he’s certain to smash it.’
Chris Lea, customer of St Helens Specsavers, said: ‘Almost 4,000 children are diagnosed with cancer every year in the UK. I’m lucky to have two healthy young boys and I couldn’t imagine as a parent seeing my child suffer. If putting myself through the biggest challenge in my life generates some much needed funding for a fantastic charity then it will be well worth it.’
