Residents urged to get eyes checked as nights darken
Skelmersdale Specsavers is encouraging residents to look after their eyesight as the nights get darker.
Road accidents increase this time of year
Accidents on the road increase this time of year when the clocks go back and there are more hours of darkness, so it’s vital that both drivers and pedestrians keep themselves safe by making sure their vision is in good condition.
Statistics from The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents showed that in 2016, pedestrian deaths rose from 20 in September to 35 in October, 50 in November and 67 in December.
Eye checks are important all year round
Store director at Specsavers in Sklemersdale, Sully Patel said: ‘It’s very important to have regular eye examinations, especially this time of year when the nights are darker and vision can be impaired.
‘Eye checks are important all year round as they do not only reveal problems with your sight, but also a whole host of other serious health issues, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and can even recognise someone at risk of a stroke.’
