Redruth fundraises for eye health
Eyecare experts in Redruth have raised more than £250 in support of eye health partners, Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).
The donation comes after £1 was donated from every eye test for one week and local residents in Redruth kindly donated further to the cause of transforming eye health, and preventing avoidable sight loss.
How many people can be saved from sight loss?
A research report commissioned by Specsavers and RNIB revealed that one in five people will live with sight loss in their lifetime despite at least half of all cases being avoidable and every day 250 people start to lose their sight in the UK.
Almost six million people in the UK currently live with sight-threatening conditions yet 25% of people are not having an eye test every two years as recommended by the College of Optometrists. The extent of the problem means that nearly every family in Britain is touched by sight problems in some way.
A word from the store director
Specsavers Redruth store director, Jonathan Eva said: ‘Thank you to everyone that donated to our partners, RNIB. An eye test is so important if we want to prevent more cases of avoidable sight loss.’
