Plymouth supports offshore rowing
Plymouth’s Mayflower Offshore Rowing Club has received a donation of £2,000 from Specsavers Plymouth stores.
The cash injection was used to purchase two new boats, which were aptly named Eyes Ahead and Joint Venture, celebrating Specsavers service and business model.
Since receiving their cash boost, the two boats have taken part in the World Rowing Coastal Championships on Lake Geneva in France in front of hundreds of competitors and supporters.
Both the men’s and women’s teams came away with great results. One of the ladies teams left the Championships as the best GB ladies quadruple coxed scull in coastal rowing.
Rower Ania Weiczorek said: ‘Thanks to Specsavers we were able to buy new boats and maintain our existing ones. We hope that with the support of Specsavers and our recent success in France more people in the Plymouth area will join us and take advantage of our beautiful coastline.’
A word from the director
Specsavers Plymouth store director, Dr Josie Forte, said: ‘As a keen rower myself we’re delighted to sponsor the Mayflower coastal rowing team.
'They have a brought back some fantastic results from the World Championships and we look forward to continuing to support them in the future.’
