Staff at Specsavers in Market Harborough have decided to support Alzheimer’s Research UK this year as part of their ongoing commitment to support causes throughout the county.
The team were asked to vote for a charity they wanted the store to support for 2017.
Every effort in fundraising
‘It’s so important for our team to get behind a good cause and throw every effort into fundraising, and by asking our staff to nominate the charity they want to support, we can maximise our efforts in every activity,’ store director Barry Henning explained. ‘We will be hosting a range of events throughout the year to raise funds and awareness, including Hollywood and Zoo themed days (though not at the same time), and will be encouraging our customers to give what they can to this brilliant charity.’
The store has previously supported charities including Voluntary Action South Leicestershire, Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance, raising money through in store activities and personal challenges.
Barry continued: ‘The work that Alzheimer’s Research does is so important for those suffering with dementia as well as the families who support them. Many of us know what it is like to have a family member with dementia and the struggles it brings.
‘We’re delighted to be supporting a charity that’s changing perceptions and leading the way in dementia research.’
Alzheimer’s Research UK is the country’s leading research organisation aiming to defeat dementia. The charity funds pioneering research into the prevention and treatment of dementia, and aims to empower a greater understanding of dementia across all generations.
