Meet our assistant manager - Deborah
How did you come to work at Specsavers in Norris Green?
After finishing my A Levels, I was not 100% sure that the degree I was planning to do was right for me. I decided not to go and look for a job instead. I soon started work at Specsavers Norris Green.
Do you wear specs, and if so, what is your favourite style?
I love big plastic frames, at the moment I'm wearing a Gant pair.
Which frames are the most popular with customers at the moment?
For children we have just launched My Little Pony which I am sure will be very popular. For adults Kylie, Cath Kidston, Diesel, Boss Orange, Gant are amongst the most popular ranges.
What does your job at Specsavers Opticians involve?
I am also the contact lens optician and in-store trainer as well as the assistant manager. So my job keeps me very busy, which I love.
I love helping to develop staff so they themselves can go on career progression also. I started as Specsavers as an optical assistant and I am very grateful for the opportunities I have been given over the years to develop myself.
My day to day role involves fitting patients with contact lenses and making sure the health of their eyes continues to remain healthy while wearing lenses, by keeping there aftercare appointments up to date.
On the shop floor my role is to ensure the working day runs smoothly and help any customers or staff who may have any problems. My in-store trainer role involves developing staff to be the best they can be and this in turn helps to deliver great customer service.
How long have you been with the company?
I started at Specsavers Norris Green in August 1998, I left to work at another Specsavers store but now am back at Norris Green and have been for over 11 years now.
What is the best part of your role?
I love all aspects of my job, as it all keeps me engaged. Seeing patients happy with their glasses or contact lenses is really rewarding.
In our store customers regularly come in to speak to our staff to see how we are getting on… a bonus they often bring chocolate for us! You get a lot of job satisfaction working at Specsavers.
Why is it so important to get your eyes checked regularly?
It is very important to regularly get your eyes checked even if you don’t feel you need glasses. There is so much an optician can tell from the health of your eyes.
