Specsavers Morningside and surrounding local businesses has raised more than £300 for Guide Dogs during a bake sale event.
Staff sold homemade sweet treats at the bake sale, with the whole community getting involved from in-store to street sales outside M&S, Hummus, Sodaberg café, bakery Andante and Karine Deli, to name but a few.
Guide Dogs is the world's largest breeder and trainer of working dogs helping more than 29,000 people to achieve life-changing independence thanks to dedicated staff, volunteers and vital donations. Specsavers has had a long relationship with the charity, which provides a lifeline to many people by providing them with a highly-trained guide dog.
A word from our store director
Joe Alubaid, operations manager for Morningside, said: ‘Thank you to everyone in Morningside who joined us to help raise funds for Guide Dogs, everyone’s kind donations made the day very special.
‘We wanted to recognise and raise awareness of all the devoted, hardworking canines helping those with sight loss. Our staff baked lots of sweet treats and we were incredibly proud to have sold all cakes by 2pm.’
A guide dog is trained to enable its owner to get safely outside, avoid obstacles and deal with traffic. There are almost 5,000 guide dog owners in the UK who have been given a new lease of freedom thanks to their furry companions.
