Store Director by day, Lifeboat volunteer by night
There’s something different about Specsavers Minehead. Your optician may jump up and disappear in a flash!
That’s because store director and optometrist, Philippa Hales, is also a volunteer lifeboat crew member in Minehead.
Philippa joined in 2012 and can be seen out in all weathers, training or even saving lives in the waters off the beautiful coastal town of Minehead in Somerset.
Throughout the month of May the store joined in the RNLI Mayday fundraising, selling the iconic yellow pin badge wellies to raise essential funds to buy kit for the courageous lifeboat crews.
Philippa said: ‘The reason I chose to volunteer with the RNLI is because we can experience the beauty and joy associated with a coastal town every day and the RNLI ensure that everyone can do that safely. But it’s only through fundraising that we can save lives.’
Fundraising from Mayday aims to pay for:
- 117 full crew kits
- 3,496 pairs of wellies
- 9,375 pairs of gloves
- 409 life jackets
