Toy drive for charity nomination
The Belper Specsavers store has chosen to support the Holiday Centre as their nominated charity over the coming year through charity events and fundraisers.
The team donated toys and gifts given by staff members and the local community to a toy drive initiative run by the charity just before Christmas. They collected non-perishable gifts for boys and girls during December, donating several boxes to the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre.
The gifts went to underprivileged children in the Derbyshire area, who may otherwise have gone without a present at Christmas.
Grateful to the local community
Store director Andy McBride commented: ‘We’re very grateful to the local community for helping us make Christmas a bit more special for those most in need in our area. We donated a huge number of fantastic gifts to the charity including games, teddies, films and chocolates – as usual Belper locals showed their generosity!
'We're looking forward to supporting such a worthwhile charity over the coming year.'
Established in 1891, the charity provides Derbyshire children having troubles in their home lives with a holiday in Skegness, Lincolnshire. It currently provides 450 holiday places per season for children, and the residential experience is designed to allow opportunity for the personal and social development of the children, especially making it clear to them that they are accepted as worthwhile individuals.
