Specsavers in Maldon was recently joined by new dispensing optician director, Mike Bromidge.
The 49-year-old, who has lived locally in Maldon for 23 years, has been working as a dispensing optician since he trained in 1989 at City and East London College.
Over 30 years experience
Since qualifying Mike has opened up a number of opticians across the South West, where he grew up, before moving to Essex when he met his wife Georgina – also a dispensing optician.
He joined Specsavers over 17 years ago as part of the Partnership in Development programme and opened the store in Braintree in June 2001.
A qualified contact lens optician for almost 20 years ago, Mike is looking forward to expanding the contact lens offer at the store.
Mike said: ‘I joined Specsavers in Maldon in November and it’s great to be part of a growing store. We’ve recently opened a third testing room, which is soundproofed and doubles as a Hearcare clinic room, and created a designated contact lens area.’
A passion for training the new generation
Mike is passionate about bringing in a new generation of opticians and works as one of the trainers on Cert 4, which is the first year of the dispensing opticians’ course.
He lectures across the country on optics and writes for industry optics publications.
In his spare time, family man Mike enjoys cycling, cinema, theatre, gigs and spending time with Georgina and their children Emily, aged 13, and Oliver, aged 15.
