Bilingual services in Shetland
Visitors to Specsavers in Lerwick can be greeted in English, Hungarian and Portugese as the local opticians boasts a bilingual offering to the island.
Dominika Kovacs and Catarina Rocha are both optical assistants at Specsavers Lerwick, having completed their initial training, and can help Hungarian or Portugese speaking customers with any queries about glasses or contact lenses.
If required, they can also both assist in translating during a customer’s eye exam.
Dominika Kovacs, who is fluent in Hungarian and English, moved to Shetland ten years ago as a nursery assistant before joining Specsavers in 2016.
Catarina Rocha, originally from the Island of Madeira, is fluent in Portugese and English and joined the Specsavers team in January after working in Guernsey.
Great addition to the Specsavers team
Thomas Bruin, store director at Specsavers Lerwick, said: ‘It’s fantastic to have Dominika and Catarina as part of our store team in Lerwick.
‘There are many residents in Shetland where English is not their first language and it’s great that our team can help answer customer questions and assist during an exam in another language if needed.’
