Opticians’ bear looks for a name
To mark National Eye Health Week (18-24 September), an Inverness opticians is raising awareness and vital funds for Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).

Specsavers Inverness is hosting a ‘guess the bear’s name’ competition from now until the end of the awareness week with funds from every £1 guess going straight to the charity.
Recent YouGov data, commissioned by Specsavers and RNIB, found that people in the UK are not taking their eye health as seriously as they should – despite regular eye tests being able to potentially detect signs of major health conditions including brain tumours, heart disease, strokes and diabetes.
Staff at Specsavers Inverness hope to raise awareness of RNIB and the importance of regular eye checks while raising funds for the charity this month.
Andrew Carr, store director at Specsavers Inverness, says: ‘We are proud to support RNIB and National Eye Health Week. Our eyes are so important but many people neglect their eye health when they should have a sight test every two years.
‘We hope the local community will help us raise a great sum for RNIB by making a small donation in store.’
Everyone who visits the High Street opticians during the national awareness week can make a guess for a small donation to RNIB. The winner will be announced at the end of September and will be the lucky recipient of the newly named teddy bear.
