Sheep shearing sponsorship
The fun-loving team at Specsavers in Hexham is once again sponsoring the prestigious sheep-shearing competition at the popular Northumberland County Show.
Specsavers’ television advert depicting the shepherd in the Scottish Highlands who unwittingly shears his faithful collie dog was the inspiration behind the Hexham store getting involved for the first time in 2016.
The sheep shearing competition is highly prestigious, requiring great skill and stamina. Shearers taking part in this year’s event travel from all over the country – and in some cases from abroad – to take part.
A word from the store director
Julie Hall, director, says: ‘We are thrilled to be part of Northumberland County Show and to be making a contribution an event which is admired throughout the North East and beyond.
‘The advert of the shepherd shearing his dog was so well loved that in 2016 people instantly understood the connection. We were also able to chat to people about the importance of good eye health at work; whether you’re a shepherd, chef or shop assistant.’
More about the event
This year the show will be held on Bank Holiday Monday, 29 May, in the beautiful parkland of Bywell Hall, near Stocksfield on the banks of the River Tyne. The organisers will no doubt be keen to build on 2016’s success when over 26,000 people visited the event.
