Regular eye and hearing tests are a must

Specsavers Hackney took part in a health awareness day at Hackney Town Hall at the end of November – and handed out lots of freebies to local people on the day.

The store, based in Mare Street, gave away free eye test vouchers and information about hearing care, alongside travel wallets and golden tickets to win money off glasses.

Eye tests are essential

Jayesh Maru, store director in Hackney, said: ‘It is very important to us as a store to get out and about into the local community to tell people why eye and hearing tests are so important.

‘Having an eye test every two years – unless you have been told to have one more often – from the age of three can not only help you keep your vision in good shape, but can also help detect a number of conditions like glaucoma and diabetes.’

Do not suffer in silence

‘Hearing tests are also quick and easy, and are free in store with no obligation to buy a hearing aid.

'They are recommended for anyone over the age of 55, but you can have one at any age. A lot of people quite literally suffer in silence rather than seek help with a hearing problem, but we might be able to help you hear better today.

‘So if you have not had an eye test or hearing test for a while, why not come and see us in store soon.’
