As we approach World Glaucoma Week (11-18 March), staff at Specsavers in Catford and Lewisham have been undertaking training to develop their knowledge of the condition.
Patricia Wallace, Manager at Specsavers Lewisham, and Catford optician, Anita Iyere were among the names of employees from across the country who have been learning about glaucoma.
The bespoke training course covers the key information about the condition, explores the best ways to support people with glaucoma and also gives guidance on how to effectively administer eye drops – the main method of treatment.
Indy Dhaliwal, store director at Specsavers Catford and Lewisham, said: ‘These training sessions are a really good way of enabling our staff to perform their jobs better on a day-to-day basis.
‘Glaucoma can be a tricky condition to explain to customers as it can be hard to understand that it can develop quite rapidly without showing any real signs and symptoms.
'However, this just goes to show how important it is for customers to ensure they do have their regular check-ups and we can minimised the damage with an early diagnosis.’
