To mark International Assistance Dog Week, staff members from Specsavers in Chatham, Strood and Gillingham built a gazebo in Strood’s town centre to raise awareness of the amazing work that Hearing Dogs for Deaf People does and the benefits of having audio pad tests done in store.

A word from the store director

Punit Patel, store director at Specsavers in Chatham, Strood and Gillingham, said: ’Highly-trained hearing dogs offer a lifeline to deaf people by alerting them to sounds they cannot hear, such as the fire alarm in a public building, or a smoke alarm in the kitchen.

‘These intelligent dogs give their owners the support and confidence needed to live an independent life and are easily recognisable by the identifiable jacket and lead slip they wear in public places.

‘We believe raising awareness of the importance of regular hearing tests is vital and we are glad our local community was very receptive.’
