Staff at Specsavers in Gillingham supported World Book Day by dressing up as their favourite children’s book characters. Organised by UNESCO, World Book Day aims at encouraging children to explore the pleasure of reading.
Fun and great results
The staff got into the spirit of the day by dressing up as popular literary characters from books, such as Harry Potter, and comic books, such as Superman and Batman.
The brilliant Gillingham team decided to take it the extra mile, by collecting children’s books to donate to the children’s ward of Medway Hospital.
The store managed to collect 220 books, which were donated to the local hospital a few days later.
Caring about the community
Craig Holland, director of Specsavers in Gillingham, said: ‘We wanted to do something special for this year’s World Book Day. Donating books to Medway Hospital was an important project and something the entire team was passionate about.
'We hope the children, who unfortunately have to spend some time in there, can benefit from our donation and that our books will make them smile.’
