After months of organisation and preparation – and plenty of training by Surrey’s young competitors – we are delighted to report that the Specsavers Surrey Youth Games was a storming success.
11 Surrey boroughs battle it out!
This unique Olympic-style event organised by Active Surrey is now the last surviving one of its kind in the entire South East. Thanks to the financial support from all Specsavers stores across Surrey, more than 3000 free training places were taken up by local children in sports ranging from boxing to boccia this last year.
Aweekend of fun
There was a lot of competitive spirit seen on the pitches, the grounds, the courts and halls.
Also there to join in the fun were some special visitors. Specsavers mascots - a giant Big Ear and Eye - cruised the grounds and free water including a free eye test voucher proved to be incredibly successful in the 80+ degree heat.
Paralympican Stephanie Millward - complete with her Gold Medals - mingled with the crowds. To top it off, balloon modelling, face painting and cheerleading entertainment was laid on for everyone to enjoy.
Prepping for next year
With a second successful sponsorship year under their belts, Specsavers stores in Surrey are already thinking about 2019. If you have any ideas, drop into a store to let us know!
