Specsavers in Edmonton Green has spent the last six months collecting more than 200 pairs of glasses to donate to Vision Aid Overseas, a charity enabling those living in poverty in Africa to access affordable glasses and eye care.
Putting charity in the frame
The team has been encouraging the local community to donate their used and unwanted specs at the store, which are then collected and recycled by Vision Aid Overseas. Proceeds generated from the reusable parts are used to establish vision centres, train local eye care professionals and provide outreach services to isolated communities in Africa.
Anar Desai, store director at Specsavers Edmonton Green, said: ‘We have had a brilliant response from customers for Vision Aid Overseas so far this year. The glasses we send on to the charity will help provide vital eye care to those living in difficult circumstances, so we’re encouraging the whole community to get behind the cause.’
How you can help
Specsavers Edmonton Green is continuing to collect glasses for Vision Aid Overseas and is aiming to donate 400 pairs by the end of the year. If you have any old specs to hand, please donate them at the store today.
