A generous donation of food from a Dumfries opticians brought some festive cheer to families in need this Christmas.

Staff at the Specsavers store in the Loreburne Shopping Centre collected a trolley full of items for Dumfries Foodbank.

The caring staff donated a generous supply of essentials, including tins, sauces, cereal, tea bags and toiletries.

They donated the items instead of sending Christmas cards this year – and the team is delighted with the number of items collected.

Vital resource

Jill Dickson, store director at Specsavers Dumfries, said: ‘Dumfries Foodbank is a vital resource for people in the area and is especially important at this time of year.

‘Christmas can be a very difficult time for some people and organisations like foodbanks provide much needed help to individuals and families.

‘Supporting the local community is very important to us and we’re delighted that we could help a great cause in this way.’
