A local opticians and hearing centre has recognised 30 members of staff who have stayed with the company for at least five years, with the group clocking up an impressive 365 years of service between them.

Loyal team

Vicki Bainbridge, director at the Specsavers store on Burlington Street said: ‘We feel so lucky to have such a loyal group of people working with us. A few years ago we started a tradition of taking our longer serving staff out for a celebratory dinner and gradually the number of people joining us for the meal has grown and grown.

‘This year we were proud to look down the table at 30 team members, many of whom have a decade or more of loyal service under their belts.’

Rachel Buxton, clinical assistant, has worked at the store for 8 years. Her smiling service and dedication to her work has made her a favourite with regular customers.

Opened in 1994

She adds: ‘The annual get-together is something we all look forward to – it’s so simple but really makes us feel appreciated. The people I work with are just fantastic and they’re definitely one of the reasons I’ve stayed at Specsavers for as long as I have!’

The longest serving member of staff is Nazir Hassen, the optometrist director, who opened the store in 1994. Sarah Nelson, personnel manager is next in line with 20 years’ service under her belt and Gareth Webster, now a retail director, began working at the store in 2001 as a 19 year old assistant.
