Customer is regional finalist in national competition
A Carmarthen woman has reached the regional finals of the annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.
Rhian Worrell, 47, has been named a Welsh regional finalist within her age category and is in with a chance of winning the main prize - a £1,000 voucher for Specsavers and £10,000 cash.
Encouraged by daughter
She says: ‘My daughter showed me the link and even took the picture. It was something fun and easy to do with her and goes towards a great cause.
‘I started wearing glasses about 30 years ago. I wore contacts for a day but went straight back to glasses and haven’t regretted it. I love colours and try to match my glasses with my outfit when I can.’
Mrs Worrell was presented with a certificate, bottle of champagne and £150 to spend in store at the Carmarthen store to mark her progression.
The 2017 awards were launched earlier this year by multi-platinum pop star, Nadine Coyle, who won the ‘Best Specs Newcomer’ award at last year’s event.
The five age categories are: 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-59 and over 60s, plus a Facebook favourite voted for by the public. The winner will receive a VIP makeover at a star-studded awards ceremony in London.
‘Confident in glasses’
Store manager, Lorna Phillips, says: ‘It’s always great when people feel confident in their glasses. You can tell Rhian makes an effort with her style and matching frames to her outfit.
‘We all wish her the best of luck and hope she makes it to the finals in London.’
For each entry, £1 has been donated to the anti-bullying charity, Kidscape. The competition has raised over £400,000 and will help support Kidscape to provide training, advice and support for those who may be affected by bullying in the UK.
