Specsavers Brighton are well and truly on the ball for more than just eye and hearing health.
That is because the North Street store is the proud sponsor of local football club AFC Varndeanians.
The club started life in 1920, when Secondary Old Boys formed a team open to all local secondary schools. It became Old Varndeanians in 1929, due to the number of ex pupils in the team.
Since then, the club has gone from strength to strength. It now plays in the Southern Combination Division One, and is based at Withdean Stadium.
In addition to three senior male teams, it has 10 youth teams and now – for the first time – two female teams.
Long term support
Mike Horler, store director in Brighton, said: ‘We have been involved with AFC Varndeanians for around six years now, since my son played in one of their youth teams.
‘So it has been a really long term relationship, and is something that we are very proud to be a part of.
Heart of the community
‘Fitness is really important to staying healthy, and grassroots sport plays a massive part in that for a lot of people.
‘AFC Varndeanians have been a big part of the local community for nearly a century now, and we are delighted to be supporting them to what we are sure will be an even brighter future.’
