Bridgend continues to support local rugby team
Specsavers in Bridgend has renewed its long-term sponsorship of local rugby team Bridgend Athletic RFC (BARFC) for another action-packed season.
The sponsorship deal means that Specsavers is featured on the senior team’s kits for this season as well as in the team’s match day programmes.
Building a strong community
Stuart Buckmaster, Bridgend store director, says: ‘Specsavers is a community opticians, we’re here to support the health of people in this town, and we know and understand the joy Bridgend Athletic RFC bring to families here.
‘We believe strongly in supporting those who contribute to our local area, which is why we have always enjoyed a close relationship with the club. We are immensely proud to be associated with the senior team ahead of what promises to be another exciting championship season for the junior, youth and senior teams.'
Part of rugby history
Bridgend Athletic RFC reformed in 1972, with former Wales and British Lions international, Dr Jack Matthews, opening the clubhouse in September 1982 in the building that was once his family home.
Now, the Welsh Rugby Union championship club is also a feeder club for the Ospreys and has senior, youth and junior sides. Former players including Wales and British Lions scrum-half Rhys Webb.
