Specsavers staff in Bridgend swapped spectacles for scales to raise nearly £120 in a bake sale for Macmillan’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’.

Community unite for cancer patients

Macmillan’s annual coffee morning encourages organisations and people across the UK to hold large bake sales, with the proceeds funding the charity’s support groups, online community groups and phone lines.

Customers were more than happy to get involved, making a donation in exchange for the culinary creations of staff at the Adare Street store.

‘A cause close to our hearts’

Carly Hickson, store manager at Bridgend, said: ‘Macmillan do so much for people who are affected by cancer, giving emotional, as well as practical, support.

‘It’s a cause close to our hearts, many of us know someone who has been diagnosed with the disease, so we’re always more than happy to raise money for the charity.

‘We had some great fun in store, with the staff bringing in some pretty impressive home-baked contributions, though we did have a few cheaters who bought theirs!’
