The Brecon team is thanking the local community for its support in helping to raise more than £135 for a day centre for the elderly.
Supporting vulnerable residents
The staff at the High Street store hosted a bake sale, encouraging colleagues and customers to make a donation in return for a sweet treat.
The combined efforts raised £136.50 and was donated to Arosfa day centre, on Camden Road. The centre provides a host of services for Brecon’s older and more vulnerable residents and the money raised will go towards its running costs.
Providing a vital service
Donna Like, director at Specsavers in Brecon, said: ‘We heard Arosfa was at risk of being closed due to a lack of funding, which we were obviously very concerned about.
‘The centre provides a vital service to members of our community; we know this firsthand as many of our customers use it and is, very sadly, sometimes the only time they leave their homes. If the service was to close it could leave some people feeling isolated and lonely.
‘Thank you to everyone who contributed. I should stop being surprised by the generosity of the community, because every time we organise a fundraiser, we are always impressed with people’s kindness.’
