A career in optics became a reality for young visitors to Birmingham’s Big Bang career’s fair thanks to staff from Specsavers Bodmin.

A career with a view

Store director Jo McLean joined manager Steven McLean at the NEC for the UK’s largest international science, technology, engineering and maths career fair, to launch Specsavers’ first ever early years careers programme, ‘A Career with a View’.

Meet the team

At the fair students aged between seven and 19 were able to meet the team and take part in a Specsavers workshop, aimed at encouraging young people to embark on a career in optics.

Bodmin store director and schools ambassador, Jo McLean says: ‘We had a great time in Birmingham and not long afterwards we visited Bodmin College to introduce the new careers programme to local pupils.

‘The aim is to encourage more young people to consider a career in optics. The workshop was therefore very hands on and taught pupils about the science of the eye, career pathways and included plenty of practical business challenges to bring it all to life.’
