Animals do the talking
Children from St Mary’s and Wadebridge primary schools were treated to a sensory lesson with a difference recently when Zoo Labs teamed up with Specsavers Bodmin.
The Specsavers sensory sessions consisted of five 45 minute sessions with nine classes across two days. Early years classes were introduced to the Zoo Labs animal team, meeting giant snails, tarantulas, cockroaches, snakes and lizards, making for an unforgettable lesson in sight and hearing.
Specsavers Bodmin store manager, Steven McLean, joined audiology practitioner Vicky McLean and ophthalmologist, Alet du Toit, for the sessions.
What is Zoo Labs?
Zoo Labs is the UK’s No 1 animal handling experience and lifelong learning company, established over 20 years ago. The rangers’ work in schools is curriculum-driven, delivering educational experiences across all subjects and explaining the concepts of science in ways that children can see and touch.
Goody bags and learning for mum and dad
At the end of the sessions all the children were offered bags to take home and encouraged to share the lessons they had learnt throughout the day with their families.
A word from Specsavers
Steven says: ‘We had a great couple of days with Zoo Labs. The kids could get fully engaged as they interacted with the animals, getting to touch and feel as they learnt the importance of looking after your sight and hearing. They really brought everything to life.’
