Optometrist director at Specsavers in Bishop Stortford, Su Challoner, is joining other Essex store directors to take on a 60 mile charity cycle across Essex for the Alzheimer's Society during Dementia Awareness Week.

The bike ride, which will take place on 19 May, was initially organised by Specsavers regional relationship manager for Essex, Roy Thorogood.

Cycling for charity

Su Challoner, director at Bishop Stortford Specsavers, said: ‘I’m thrilled to join Roy Thorogood and the other Essex store directors on this challenge.

‘The bike ride is bound to be tough, but it’s all for a good cause and we’re hoping to raise a considerable amount for charity.’

Dedicated care

Specsavers is investing in specific dementia training for staff to allow them to offer specialist customer care to those affected by the disease. Across Essex, around 300 staff have completed the training programme.

Alzheimer’s Research UK is dedicated to funding scientific studies to find ways to treat, cure or prevent Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, Lewy Body disease and fronto-temporal dementia.
