If you have an old pair of glasses that you no longer use gathering dust at home, why not donate them to charity at Specsavers Bethnal Green.
The store, in Bethnal Green Road, is currently celebrating after collecting over 700 pairs of used glasses for Vision Aid Overseas (VAO) in the last month alone.
Improving eye health
The charity recycles all glasses received and all proceeds from the reusable parts go towards improving the eye health of people in the developing world.
This includes training local eyecare professionals, establishing vision centres and providing outreach services to more isolated communities.
Amit Kara, store director in Bethnal Green, said: ‘The work that Vision Aid Overseas does is critical. We take good quality eyecare for granted – and the difference what they do makes in the developing world is quite literally life-changing.
‘We would like to thank our customers for taking the time to drop their unwanted glasses in to us in store – and would urge them to continue to do so when they come and see us.’
