Specsavers in Bedford has given a helping hand to those in need this Christmas by collecting goods for a local foodbank drive.

The opticians is supporting the Christmas in a Box appeal run by charities Bedford Foodbank and the All Nations Church, which aims to provide Christmas hampers to people in crisis.

In 2016, the initiative led to 700 food and drink boxes being distributed to more than 1,600 people in Bedford.

Seasonal support

Staff were encouraged to drop off products such as tinned food, drinks and snacks at the store, and Specsavers Bedford has since collected enough goods to donate four full Christmas boxes.

In addition, the team also held a raffle for a mystery prize to help raise additional funds and purchase further items for the food boxes.

A word from the director

Specsavers Bedford store director Matt Stewart said: ‘Christmas is not only a time to celebrate but also to think about the needs of others, and we hope our contribution to the Christmas in a Box campaign can bring some support to people going through challenging times this festive season.’
