Meet the store director - Morna Scott
How did you come to run a Specsavers store?
In 2002 my husband and I moved to the Lake District and I became one of three directors running the Barrow-in-Furness store. I learnt a lot whilst I was there and met some great people.
We decided to move back to Scotland in 2008 to open the Bathgate store, so I was able to utilise all the new skills and experience I had gained in Barrow. The store and staff have evolved over this time into a practice and team that I am really proud of. Our aim is to deliver the best customer service, the best value eyecare and hearcare to everyone.
Do you wear specs, and if so, what is your favourite style?
I have been wearing glasses since I was 11 years old and my style has changed dramatically over the years! At the moment, I definitely favour the larger plastic styles and I always look for that wee extra design detail that makes them stand out and look a bit different.
What does an eye test involve?
The sight test we provide is a comprehension check of the external and internal health of your eyes, a check of your vision levels and the prescription you may require.
There are many tests that we use to determine these results and this includes retinal photographs, check of internal pressure, visual fields, pupil function and binocular function.
We use all the up to date technology and are excited to announce that we will be adding OCT to this list in a few months. OCT essentially takes an MRI like scan of your retina and is the next step in future of pptometry.
Why is it so important to get your eyes checked regularly?
It is so important to have your eyes tested regularly as there are many conditions, ocular and elsewhere in the body that can be detected through a routine eye exam and often long before you are aware of any symptoms.
It also very important to make sure that your vision levels are of the standard legally required for driving. It is imperative that children have regular sight tests as vision plays an important part in their ability to learn and their overall development.
Does your store also offer Hearcare?
We offer Hearcare on a fortnightly basis, clinics are run every second Wednesday. Hearing tests are free of charge and if any hearing loss is found the audiologist will discuss your options with you.
