Specsavers in Ballymena has appointed two new trainee optical assistants bringing the total number of employees to 27.

Elly McIlgorm

Elly McIlgorm, who is from Glenarm, began her career as a hairdresser before moving to a job at Belfast International Airport. She really enjoyed selling sunglasses to the travelling customers and was delighted when an opportunity to work at Specsavers came up.

Her ongoing training has enabled her to carry out an increasing range of tasks including frame selection and advising on lens features. Elly is also trained as a Contact Lens assistant which enables her to work in Ballymena’s very busy Contact Lens department.

Leagh Purdy

A former pupil at Dunclug College, Leagh began her working life in retail. She was always on the lookout for a greater challenge and a job with a professional element.

Specsavers has offered her both and she is finding real enjoyment working both on the shop floor, helping customers to find the perfect glasses and also behind the scenes, in the lab, where she ensures that the glasses are made and finished to the highest specifications.

Welcomes new team members

Welcoming Elly and Leagh, Specsavers store director, Adrian Murdoch, said: ‘We are regularly growing our team to meet the demands of our customers.

'Elly and Leagh are already a great asset to our team and we look forward to supporting them further as they continue to develop their skills within our store.’
