Specsavers throughout Norfolk give advice on protecting your eyes this winter

At this time of year many of us are heading off in seach of some summer sun. But if you are planning to jet set it’s important to ensure you and your family’s eyesight is properly protected from UV rays. Specsavers stores across Norfolk are on-hand to offer advice.

Why UV protection matters

Opticians across Norfolk are raising awareness of the danger UV rays can pose to not only our skin, but our eyes too.

Staff are calling on all families to ensure that their eyes are properly protected from sun damage and are urging anyone who is heading off on holiday to check their sunglasses to make sure they are fully protected against UV rays.

Top tips

•    Sunglasses should be marked UV 400 to provide sufficient protection from sun damage
•    The larger the lens, the more protection they’ll give your eyes as there’s less chance that light will filter in through the sides
•    If you are taking prescription sunglasses on holiday, take your optician's phone number with you so that if they break your         prescription can be sent to an optician near you so that you can get new ones
•    There’s less chance of light filtering through the sides of your glasses if they have larger lenses, so opt for bigger specs in the sun

Staff at your local store can offer help and advice if you are unsure as to the level of protection they need.
