Specsavers Acton are supporting international eye health charity Vision Aid Overseas (VAO) – and they need your help.
All you have to do is bring your used glasses into the store, in the High Street, and you will be helping people in the developing world see better.
Your unwanted glasses will be recycled to raise vital funds for the charity. Not bad for something which is often thrown away.
Since 2001, Vision Aid Oversea have sent more than 400 eyecare professionals to Ethiopia alone to provide free eye tests and low-cost glasses. While there, they train local eyecare teams to support the local population.
Really important work
Sneha Pancholi, store director in Acton, said: ‘The work that Vision Aid Overseas does is really important, and we are really pleased to be able to support it.
‘Over 100 million people live in Ethiopia, for example. Much of the population there lives in remote areas which are hard to reach, and lack the access to eye care that we take for granted in the UK.
Drop in your glasses
Sneha adds: ‘So please, if you have a pair of glasses gathering dust at home, take a couple of minutes to drop them into us. They really will make a massive difference for people in the developing world, and could even give someone the gift of sight for the first time.’
