Donation from Aberdare kicks off support

07 November, 2017

Specsavers in Aberdare is continuing its support of the Aberdare Referees Society with a £500 donation for branded training kits, polo shirts and tracksuits.

Support for referees

The society was created in 1933 and aims to promote refereeing at a local and national level, providing training opportunities for members and organising high-profile guest speakers, such as international referee Howard Webb.

Referees from the organisation also represented Wales in the Euro 2016 qualifiers.

The Victoria Square store has long supported the society, having donated to it annually for the last 15 years.

Transferable skills

Neil Robinson, store director of Aberdare, said: ‘We are delighted to support the society again, as it does so much for our local community. Giving them such fantastic skills is really important and we’re proud to be associated with it.

‘Critical thinking, problem solving and decision making are imperative for a referee and these skills are transferable to many other aspects of life, which is why the work of the Referees Society is so beneficial to our local community.’
