Leigh Nelson and the team at Specsavers Newtownards celebrate the store's 15th birthday

Specsavers Newtownards celebrated 15 years in business in April 2016. The optician has been located on High Street since it opened in 2001 and has contributed to the training and employment of 20 local staff ranging from dispensing opticians to optometrists, many of whom have been with the store since opening.

Happy staff, happy customers
Recently, the business was awarded Investors in People (IIP) Accreditation, achieving the highest standard of people management in the UK. The accolade came thanks to Leigh Nelson, store director at Specsavers Newtownards ensuring a happy and well-trained team who always have opportunities to learn more with the business to expand their own skills and store services.

Leigh commented; ‘We have been looking after the local community’s sight and hearing for 15 years now, we’re delighted to celebrate with our customers, including many who have been with us since we opened in 2001.

‘Our team is hugely valued, and we ensure we’re constantly learning. Just recently we were delighted to Andrew Coates who passed his Hearcare Assistant exams at the end of last year.’

Cake and presents
To celebrate the milestone, Specsavers Newtownards enjoyed a party in store with cake and gifts for some lucky customers who were delighted to win one of 10 frames with lenses suited to their needs.
