Specsavers loves Tamworth
Tamworth will be unveiling the new charity staff has chosen to support at the We Love Tamworth event on Saturday 23 August.
The store will have a stall at the popular carnival, organised by the Tamworth Lions Club. From now until the day, balloons will be available to buy from the store in return for a minimum donation of £1, with all money going to the Poppy Fields appeal. Everyone that buys a balloon will also be given a free bottle of water with sight test vouchers attached.
Poppy Fields charity
The charity was set up after young Poppy Guilder from Tamworth was diagnosed with a brain tumour and cared for in the Birmingham Children’s Hospital. At around 3pm at the We Love Tamworth event, the store hopes to release as many balloons as possible with the help of Poppy, her family and the Tamworth Lion.
Lisa Large, store director, said: ‘We can’t wait to be a part of the hugely popular We Love Tamworth festival; there’s always a great sense of community spirit with local events such as this. It will be a fantastic opportunity to announce our fundraising support for the local Poppy Fields appeal.
‘We encourage visitors to pop along to our stand and buy a balloon, it’s all for charity and will look incredible when we all let them off in the festival!’
In April 2004, Poppy’s family started the appeal to fundraise for neurosurgical equipment and research into childhood brain tumours for the hospital and Poppy Fields was born.
The We Love Tamworth event will be held in the castle grounds and will see street performers, face painters, saxons, bandstand concerts, fairground rides, community stalls and much more from 11am-5pm on the Saturday.
