As part of Armed Forces Week, Specsavers staff in Belle Vale raised £56.00 for Blind Veterans UK, a charity that works in support of ex-service men and women who are suffering from a visual impairment or have lost their vision.
Guidance and support to visually-impaired veterans
The charity provides guidance and support to veterans, which includes helping them relearn vital life skills and providing them with the tools they need to be independent in their own homes, offering new learning, training and recreation opportunities as well as providing long-term nursing, residential and respite care.
Blind Veterans UK provides vital support for the men and women who have served our country, and it doesn't matter when they served, or for how long. Nor does it matter how they lost their sight. If they served their country then Blind Veterans UK are there to support them so they do not have to battle blindness alone.
Why it is important to help
Monica Suite, optical advisor in Belle Vale said: ‘Blindness or visual impairment affects a number of our ex-service men and women, meaning many need additional day-to-day support and care. Blind Veterans UK plays a vital role in providing this support service.
She continued: ‘In most cases these veterans have been brave enough to risk their lives and stand up to protect our country, so all staff were keen to get involved in fundraising for this worthwhile charity. The bake sale we organised to help raise cash went down particularly well with our customers!’
