Whether you are a school leaver, university graduate or just looking for a new challenge, an apprenticeship could be the answer.
To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, Morgan Duffy and Toby Graham, Optical Apprentices from Specsavers Great Yarmouth are sharing their stories to encourage more people to consider apprenticeships.
From application, to trial, to work
Morgan said: ‘My apprenticeship journey started when I did the trial day at Specsavers Great Yarmouth. I met the team and saw first-hand what I would be doing. I knew immediately it was for me!
No day is the same
Morgan continued: ‘The great thing about the job is that no day is the same. I shadow other staff members, learning all the different scenarios for our customers. It’s a really busy store, which means that every day I learn something new. We are also allocated study time to do our coursework.’
Plenty of help
Toby added: ‘Throughout my apprenticeship I’ve learnt how to do pre-screenings, dispense glasses and how to advise customers on choosing the right styles. This means that every day I am customer-facing and I have an Assessor Coach and Buddy to help me every step of the way.’
Go for it!
Toby offered a piece of advice for anyone considering an apprenticeship: ‘Be prepared to work hard but don’t worry it’s definitely worth it and really rewarding!’
A word from the director
Richard Pugh, Specsavers Great Yarmouth Store Director, said: ‘Morgan and Toby brought with them a wave of enthusiasm and ambition. I have no doubt they have fantastic careers ahead of them.’
