Specsavers founder visits store
Leading Welsh businessman Doug Perkins has returned to his homeland to celebrate a milestone year for the Specsavers store in Cwmbran.
Congratulate store’s achievements
Staff at the store were delighted when the Llanelli-born Specsavers founder visited to congratulate them on all they had achieved in 2016.
The store celebrated its 25th anniversary last year with the completion of a £200,000 refurbishment, which saw the creation of two new optical testing rooms, a pre-screening room and five additional dispensing points, and recently its laboratory team achieved a 100% score in a Specsavers quality audit, the only team in Wales to do so.
It has also just completed a £10,000 laboratory refurbishment, investing in new technology and staff training as well as employing a new member of staff.
‘It’s been a momentous 12 months for the team in Cwmbran and I am delighted to have been able to come and congratulate them personally on all they have accomplished,’ said Mr Perkins, who founded Specsavers in 1984 with his wife Dame Mary Perkins.
‘It’s fantastic to see how far this store has come, from its humble beginnings in 1991 to a thriving community store with a 50-strong team and state-of-the-art technology.’
Highest standards of care
‘It was fantastic to show Doug all that the team has achieved here,’ said store director, Mark Edwards.
‘We pride ourselves on offering the highest standards of optical and audiology care to the local community, and with our continued investments we’ve improved quality processes in store and added to the range of services we offer customers, for example we’re now the only opticians in Cwmbran to offer a one-hour glazing service.
‘We’re a locally-owned business operation, but to welcome Doug, the co-founder of the Specsavers model, was the perfect way to mark what has been an unforgettable year for us.’
