The team at Specsavers Chard is hosting a collection drive for old and unused glasses in aid of Ilminster Lions Club throughout July and August.

Bid to collect a record number of old glasses

Specsavers is asking locals to search high and low for old pairs of specs, as staff aim to collect a record number of glasses for the local charity.

Donate your old specs

Specsavers Chard store director Stephen Watson said: ‘We collect glasses in store and the local Lions group collect them and distribute them. Our goal is to reach over 1,000 pairs of glasses by September. We have invited local business owners, sportsmen, community groups and council members to come down and donate their old specs too.

At the end of the day the collected specs are boxed and donated to the Lions Club for recycling.'

Service to the blind and visually impaired

Lions is a service organisation with about 1.4 million members world wide in 44,000 clubs. Internationally, Lions is recognised for service to the blind and visually impaired. At a more local level community service work can vary from small donations to help an individual buy a piece of equipment that might be needed to help improve their quality of life, or a set of football shirts for a local junior football team, through to something more major like the Message in a Bottle scheme.
